Paper is unique in that it is a natural product, fully biodegradable,
recyclable, and made of a potentially renewable resource, and the pulp and
paper industry has the unique potential to develop sustainable
technologies

- Renate Kroesa, Greenpeace International
FAO Advisory Committee on Pulp and Paper: Rome 20-22 May 1991

Gunns' Wood Fibre Division has been a leading supplier of hardwood woodchips to the pulp and paper industry since the late 1930's. Up to 1970, the product was all consumed in Tasmania, but from that time exports have developed, and Gunns is now also a leading supplier to the pulp and paper industry in Japan, Korea, China and Indonesia.

Four processing facilities and loading ports are operated at three locations around Tasmania – Burnie, Tamar and Triabunna.

Wood for Woodfibre Division comes from residual chips arising from the sawmilling operations, together with plantations and wood sourced from natural forest operations. As the plantations mature, the percentage of fibre supplied from this source will increase.
